Mole Removal

Laser Mole Removal Scottsdale

Moles are very common, and many people have one or more. In some cases, the removal of a mole is performed because there’s concern about the mole having become cancerous. In other cases, moles are removed for cosmetic reasons. A mole that’s in a visible location may be bothersome, affecting confidence about one’s appearance.

How are moles removed?

A mole can be removed surgically. For a less invasive procedure, a mole can be removed with a laser or IPL. This involves using pulses of light that will be selectively absorbed by the pigment of the mole. This leads to localized heating of the tissue, which damages it. The body’s natural healing response will lead to clearing away of the tissue of the mole.

Multiple treatments may be needed to achieve the desired result. In many cases, people need 3-5 treatments in order to get rid of the mole.

If there’s serious concern about the mole having become cancerous, a specialized procedure known as Mohs surgery may be used. This should be performed by a specialist in order to get a good result.

What is the recovery like?

Laser mole removal is less likely to leave a scar than surgical mole removal is. A surgical procedure will always leave a scar, although it can be very discreet if the procedure is performed well. With laser mole removal, the recovery is much easier. There may be some redness or swelling in the area after the procedure, which will generally subside quickly. Tissue may flake off from the mole, although the tissue may be absorbed so gradually that you don’t notice the pieces coming off.

However, with laser mole removal, the tradeoff is that there’s a chance that the mole will grow back. Although the laser or IPL procedure removes most of the mole tissue, if a little bit of the tissue remains, then the mole may come back later.
