Tretinoin .1%

Acne spots, when left untreated, can become inflamed enough to cause damage to the deeper layers of the skin (the dermis), meaning that they can cause permanent scars that are difficult to treat. That’s why it’s crucial not to ignore your acne, or simply cover it up with makeup and then go about your day. You need to treat it, not only to get beautiful clear skin now, but also to prevent scars from forming.

Tretinoin is a common and effective treatment for acne. It works by causing the cells in the skin to renew themselves more quickly. It may also cause the cells to stick together less tightly, so there’s a bit of “breathing room” between them. This helps to prevent the pores from clogging, so fewer pimples form. It also means that the ones that do form will heal more quickly, with less chance that they’ll get bad enough to cause scarring.

Tretinoin .05% is the typical starting dose. Generally, you’ll start with that lower dose, and then move up to the .1% if you need a stronger treatment to control your acne. Dr. Caniglia will continue to monitor you to ensure that you get the best treatment for your skin.

Don’t forget to use a skin cleanser formulated for acne-prone skin, such as the Clenziderm Daily Care Cleanser. It’s important for everyone to cleanse their skin daily, but it’s particularly important for those with acne. Keeping your pores clear is necessary, to reduce the formation of new pimples.
