Rhinoplasty Recovery

09th May, 2012

If you want to enhance the overall appearance of your face and make a dramatic impact on your overall appearance, one of the best options is to undergo a nose job. When you visit our Scottsdale plastic surgery center, we’ll go over the full procedure in detail so you understand what to expect. Right now, we’d like to cover the basics of surgery and the recovery process to give you an idea of what to expect.

About Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)

Rhinoplasty is a surgery performed to change the size, shape, internal structures, or overall contour of the nose. There are two ways of performing it: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. The former allows more access to the structure of the nose, the latter is less invasive. Though it is often performed for cosmetic purposes and reconstructive purposes, people can also undergo rhinoplasty to alter nasal cavity and address respiratory issues.

Preparing for Rhinoplasty

Before you visit our facial plastic surgery center in Scottsdale for treatment, there are several steps you can take to ensure effective healing. For one, be sure to quit smoking, abstain from consuming alcoholic beverages, and avoid taking any blood-thinning medications.

Be sure to arrange for transportation to and from our facility on the day of your surgery. It’s also ideal to have someone stay with you for the first day or two after surgery to help you around the home and keep tabs on your condition.

What to Expect in the First Days After Rhinoplasty

In the first few days after Scottsdale rhinoplasty, soreness, discomfort, and bruising are all common. Be sure not to touch the nose or surgical dressings during this time. While sleeping, make sure to sleep in a position that does not affect the nose in any way. It’s important that you spend the first day or two resting and that you refrain from any strenuous physical activity. If at any time you notice undue pain, nosebleeds, or other things that seem amiss, be sure to contact our practice.

Blowing your nose must be avoided for several weeks after surgery. If you wear glasses, you will be asked to not let them rest on the bridge of your nose or to wear contacts. After the first week of surgery, you’ll return to our practice for the first follow-up visit.

What to Expect in the First Weeks After Rhinoplasty

In the first weeks after surgery, you can slowly return to normal activities, but be sure not to engage in any physically demanding activities. In particular, try to avoid any heavy lifting since this puts pressure and strain on the face. Air travel may be strictly prohibited or limited in these first weeks after your surgery, so please keep that in mind.

Additional Concerns as You Recover from Rhinoplasty

Since this is a facial cosmetic surgery that affects a central and prominent facial feature, there may be a number of additional concerns when it comes to healing. We urge you during your consultation to ask any questions you may have and voice any concerns. Doing so will ensure the best possible treatment and that you have realistic expectations about the surgery and what it can achieve.
