This is the first product specifically designed for treating the lips and the area around the mouth. Restylane® Silk, like other Restylane® products, is made of hyaluronic acid. The difference is that, in Restylane® Silk, the particles of this substance are smaller and smoother. This allows for precise placement, and creates a softer, more natural look in the lips after injection, avoiding that “over-plump” look.

Restylane® Silk is also formulated with lidocaine, a local anesthetic, for added comfort during injection.

What makes Restylane® Silk unique?

Like other members of the Restylane® family of products, Restylane® Silk is made of hyaluronic acid. The difference between Restylane® Silk and other Restylane® injectables is in the particle size. Restylane® Silk is formulated for maximum smoothness, so the particles are very small and the product is very spreadable and soft.

What can Restylane® Silk be used for?

This product is excellent for lip augmentation. When injected into the lips, the small particles of Restylane® Silk are able to be placed very precisely, allowing the surgeon to create the desired result. Because the particles are soft and small, they’re less likely to create the “over-plumped” look.

What is it like to have a Restylane® Silk injection?

This product is formulated with lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. It creates a numbing of the area, so the process of receiving the injection is actually very comfortable. After cleaning the treatment area, the product will be injected. The area may then be massaged to ensure that the product placement is exactly as desired. The entire process takes less than an hour, so it’s actually possible to have Restylane® Silk injected on your lunch break and then return to work right afterwards.

Is there any downtime?

There is very little downtime associated with injection of Restylane® Silk. We recommend that you avoid touching or pressing on your lips for about six hours after the injection. Some people experience some swelling and bruising, but this is temporary and will resolve quickly. It’s generally not intense enough to make you need to change any of your daily activities.
