Stem cell skin care Scottsdale

Stem cells are becoming more and more common across many different areas of medicine, from orthopedics to neurology. Cosmetic medicine is no exception. Stem cells are used in certain skin care products, and can offer a variety of benefits that enhance the skin’s appearance.

The stem cells contained in these products are a little different from those used in other forms of medicine. How are they different? How can stem cells benefit your skin?

Skin care products use plant stem cells

In general, skin care products use extracts of plant stem cells. This is different from the stem cells used in other types of medicine, which are generally human stem cells. In a field like orthopedics or neurology, the goal of the treatment is for the stem cells to grow within the body, so that they can replace lost or damaged tissues. This is why these fields need to use human stem cells.

For skin care, the goal is different. Rather than placing stem cells inside of the body so that they grow into new tissues, the goal is to stimulate the skin’s own cells to grow and to make proteins. There are factors in stem cells that can stimulate skin cells to do this, and many of these are found in stem cells of many different species, including both animals and plants.

We don’t really need to use human stem cells to get these factors into the skin, and using them could create an unnecessary risk of transmitting disease. Instead, most skin care products use plant stem cells to derive the important substances. Sometimes, animal stem cells might be used. It doesn’t really matter what species the stem cells come from, because all stem cells contain beneficial factors.

How do stem cells benefit the skin?

Stem cells are optimized for growth. Because of this, they contain a variety of different factors that can jumpstart the growth and repair process in other cells. These include a variety of amino acids and peptides, which are the building blocks of proteins. These factors can help your skin to synthesize proteins like collagen and elastin, which are the skin’s main structural proteins. When the skin cells make more of these proteins, the skin will visibly tighten.

Stem cells also contain growth factors, which are substances that stimulate other cells to grow. When exposed to growth factors, the cells of your skin will divide more often, so that they can repair damage and replace cells that have been lost. This helps to plump the skin and create a smoother and more glowing appearance.

Stem cell skin care can:

  • Plump the skin to create a rejuvenated appearance
  • Tighten and tone the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Promote an even skin tone, reducing the appearance of dark spots
  • Shrink scars and speed up wound repair
  • Help the body clear infections (such as acne)
  • Reduce the size of large pores

Stem cells can be found in a variety of different types of products, including serums, cleansers, eye creams, and moisturizers.
