Restylane and Perlane are both natural hyaluronic acid cosmetic dermal fillers. These natural, safe fillers restore volume and fullness to the skin and correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. These fillers are also commonly used to enhance the lips. Both Restylane and Perlane can be used for all ages.
These natural hyaluronic cosmetic fillers are often injected in a physician’s exam room. The procedure can take anywhere from five to thirty minutes depending on the number of sites and the amount of volume injected. Restylane and Perlane can safely be injected with a topical anesthetic to numb the skin. When the lips are being injected, however, a local anesthetic or dental block can be performed to numb the lips. Dr. Caniglia uses very fine needles to inject the Restylane or Perlane directly into the skin or lips. A cold compress is then applied to the treatment area.
The results from the natural hyaluronic fillers are immediate. Most patients can go out later that day, though there is always a chance that one may experience some bruising. Bruising can usually be covered with makeup. Most patients can return to work and other normal activities the next day. The results of Restylane and Perlane last an average of six to twelve months, with some newer studies showing results of up to eighteen months. The risks associated with Restylane and Perlane are minimal and rare but may include bleeding, bruising, skin loss, scarring and lumpiness.
