JUVÉDERM® is a natural hyaluronic acid, smooth gel, non-animal dermal filler that is often used to correct facial wrinkles and folds, enhance the lips and correct under eye hollows. Juvederm® injections may be used for all ages.
These natural hyaluronic cosmetic fillers are commonly injected in the physician’s exam room. Procedural times may last anywhere from five to thirty minutes depending on the number of sites and the amount of volume injected. A topical anesthetic is typically used unless the lips are being treated, in which case a local anesthetic or dental block can be performed to numb the lips. Dr. Caniglia injects the Juvederm® directly into the skin or lips using very fine needles. This is followed by the application of a cold compress.
The results from Juvederm® are immediate and last on average six to twelve months. Some newer studies are showing some patients with results lasting up to eighteen months. Following treatment, most patients are able to go out later that day. However, some patients may experience some bruising which can usually be concealed with makeup. Most patients can return to work and other normal activities on the day after treatment. Risks associated with Juvederm® are generally rare and minimal but may include bleeding, bruising, skin loss, scarring and lumpiness.
