jowl lift
Posted December 28, 2009 10:31 AM

Technically there is not a surgical procedure known as a "jowl lift." The jowls are lifted along with the neck area, in what is called a facelift. Some prefer to call this a lower facelift or minilift. In the medical/surgical literature, a facelift really only addresses the cheeks, jowls and neck. A facelift has nothing to do with the eyes or brows.

It is extremely important when considering facial rejuvenation surgery to make sure the appropriate procedure is chosen to address the problem area. These procedures are meant to be performed in a very specific way, and if the surgeon deviates from this, or another words, tries to cut corners or do less to get the same result, the results will suffer and more often than not, the scars are bad.

It is also important to not get caught up in "trendy" procedures with fancy names, thus the "fad free" facelift, ie. stay away from fads and trends as these are nothing more than marketing ploys.
I always tell my patients, do what is proven, what's effective and what the medical literature supports. It is also extremely important to consult with a facial plastic surgeon who has expertise in facial rejuvenation surgery.

The Fad-Free Facelift With Laser Resurfacing
Posted September 15, 2009 12:54 PM

If you're bothered by aging in the face and neck, you may be attracted to the variety of facelift fads touted today. These trendy or trade name facelift procedures often promise a less invasive, less expensive procedure with results that too often prove too good to be true. Too many of these facelift fads produce poor results, poor scarring, and results that simply do not last.

In truth, the most proven and effective technique for treating an aging face and neck is the traditional, fad-free facelift. When performed correctly by a skilled surgeon, healing times are often quicker than those promised by the facelift fads and results are significantly better. Further, the fad-free facelift can be combined with laser resurfacing for dramatic improvement. Using traditional facelift techniques, the treatment targets sagging in the lower face and neck, including sagging cheeks, jowls and neck bands. Laser resurfacing methods are then used to treat damaged skin, including brown spots, raised lesions and other skin imperfections. The result is a firmer, more youthful facial contour with fresher, more vibrant looking skin.

This breakthrough combination of facelift and laser resurfacing can be performed in less than two hours with comfortable twilight sleep anesthesia. The surgery itself can be customized to the individual patient in order to address their specific needs. Innovative natural tissue glue is used, resulting in minimal bruising and swelling. There are no drains used and no need to have your stitches removed because dissolvable sutures are used. Patients are able to shampoo and shower the very next day.

What is a FAD FREE Facelift?
Posted July 23, 2009 7:51 PM in Facial Surgeons

In today's rapidly changing cosmetic market, there seems to be more confusion regarding facelift procedures than ever before. Most of this confusion comes from the onslaught of "trade names" given to facelift procedures by surgeons. These trade name procedures are often misleading with many false promises. Most of these "trendy" facelift procedures advertise that they are less invasive with quicker healing, less downtime and less expensive.

Unfortunately, in my opinion, when a surgeon attempts to cut corners and not perform the surgical procedures the way the medical literature recommends, this is when results suffer. The most common problems I see with these so-called minimally invasive facelifts is poor results, especially in the neck area, poor scarring, and lack of long term results.

Therefore, I recommend the FAD FREE Facelift, that is, do what is proven, what is effective and what the medical literature recommends. I assure my patients that if a facelift is done properly, their healing will be quicker than these so-called brand name facelifts, their results will be superior and as far as scarring, I tell them their hair dresser will have a hard time knowing they had a facelift.

It is also important to understand that facelift procedures should be customized to the individual patient. That is, some patients need more skin work, some more muscle work and others more fat recontouring. To perform the same trendy or trade name procedure on every patient is not acting in the best interest of the patient.

I have built a thriving facelift practice over the last 16 years, by adhearing to these conservative proven techniques. I have not fallen prey to fads, as fads do not last. We have all heard the sayings, "if it is too good to be true it is and you get what you pay for."
